Weirdlings

Kiasyd by Mark Kelly.jpg

The weirdlings are a bloodline initially started through a concoction of faerie Blood, with alien appearances that make themselves easily visible in a crowd. Kiasyd are known as well-mannered lorekeepers, researching all manners of occult lore and mysteries. Some are known to be skilled in Blood Alchemy, creating concoctions from the Blood of supernaturals.

Who are the Kiasyd?

  • Suspected or Confirmed Parent Clan: Lasombra.

The Kiasyd embrace the studious, polite, and highly educated. Their small population is largely comprised of inquisitive minds that rarely seek to socialise, besides for the sharing of their attained knowledge with each other. Many enjoy the varied flavours of different Blood and vitae, having cocktail clubs scattered thinly across the world where they drink alongside others of their bloodline. Some have the talent to practice Blood Alchemy, creating concoctions that may strengthen themselves and potentially evolve the bloodline's future generations.

The vast majority spent a great amount of time dissociating from Sect affairs in the past, but events in recent nights have pushed many to take more active roles for the sake of a quiet future. Many are leaving the Sabbat due to the attention they draw from the Second Inquisition. Most join the Camarilla, following the footsteps of their founder, Marconius, and their parent clan, the Lasombra. Some join the Anarchs for the greater freedom they provide the weirdlings in their work.

The Kiasyd have alien physiques due to their faerie nature. They are tall, pale, with eyes like the abyss. They can lie to mortals under the guise that their appearance is alternative fashion. They still draw a great deal of attention to themselves, so most conceal their most eye-drawing features to be safe from the Second Inquisition. Their new height cannot be concealed from mortals from their past, making visits extreme risks to the Masquerade unless the Kiasyd poses as a stranger or erases the memories from those visited.

Kiasyd Archetypes

Librarian

Knowledge is power, and librarians have a lot. Curators of wisdom from many ages, they are eager to learn, but hesitant to take risks. Their collections are filled with mundane and occult knowledge alike, and they form many ties with the goal to collect more. The most valuable information is that which nobody knows, and the librarians keep many secrets.

Mixologist

These Kiasyd mix Blood cocktails with great skill, able to satisfy the tastes of anyone. Although they rarely mingle with other kindred, their drinks prove delicious to those who get a taste. A Mixologist’s talents are often employed in Elysiums, and they take the opportunity to learn anything useful about those present.

Occult Explorer

There are many unnatural forces in this world, and these weirdlings seek to uncover and control many of them. They search for methods to enter the Changeling realm of The Dreaming whilst they master mytherceria, they steal necromantic tomes from the Hecata, and they may even explore the likes of blood sorcery or vicissitude to further understand and apply the supernatural forces of the world.

Disciplines

there are two variations of the disciplines depending on the preference of the player and the storyteller when running a Kiasyd. The first variant is one where Mytherceria is its own full discipline to help make the Kiasyd feel truly unique. (See Related)

Mytherceria: Thanks to their faerie blood, the Kiasyd possess this discipline that makes them capable at taking objects and information that they desire but might not be given so easily, as well as a few of their tricks helping them have an advantage against unsuspecting foes, should the Kiasyd be forced into combat. Very few weirdlings would offer their Blood to allow another to learn this discipline, fearing that their own methods of deceit could be used against them.

Dominate: The Kiasyd often use Dominate to always be in control, ensuring obedience from others. They can make test subjects drink a bloody concoction, or lure potential prey away from crowds so they can be fed on without drawing attention to themselves.

Oblivion: Oblivion allows Kiasyd to conceal themselves in darkness, or to eavesdrop through the perspective of shadows. They also accumulated knowledge of the necromantic uses of Oblivion, communicating with spirits and creating undead servants for labour. Using this power can stain the soul, but the Kiasyd see it as an acceptable cost for the powers gained.

The second variant is one where Mytherceria is represented by a set of amalgam powers to be firmly in-line with the design philosophies of the V5 developers. (See Related)

Auspex: As a clan constantly seeking knowledge, Auspex allows the Kiasyd to gain in-depth understanding of the emotional framework of mortals and supernaturals they interact with, or to investigate the auras and magical essences present in their surroundings. A Kiasyd can find subjects for experimentation with ease by knowing exactly how they tick.

Remember to only use one of the two variants in a single chronicle, these are variant rules for the Kiasyd, not just allowing you to choose between Auspex and Mytherceria

Bane

All Kiasyd undergo multiple changes in appearance after the Embrace as markings of their faerie nature, having all of the following: growing in height to about seven feet tall, chalk-white skin, pure black eyes, and sometimes another minor marking such as pointed ears or an extra finger. These features make them stand out in mortal society if unconcealed, but are not necessarily Masquerade breaches.

In addition to these physical changes, Kiasyd suffer effects equivalent to one Flaw: Folkloric Block and one Flaw: Folkloric Bane, except that the Willpower which must be spent and Aggravated Health damage suffered are equal to their Bane Severity. While both the Block and Bane of a Kiasyd will generally have the same subject, they vary greatly between each Kiasyd, ranging from physical substances such as iron to more esoteric ones such as telling lies.

Clan Compulsion: Research

Driven by the same strange forces that created them, the Kiasyd finds themselves with an urge to tinker, to take things apart to see how they work, to learn at any cost, even -and especially- if the cost is the pain of others. While driven by this compulsion, the Kiasyd takes a two-dice penalty on any actions that are not taken to that end. This penalty lasts until the end of the scene or until the Kiasyd's obsession with experimentation and learning is sated by finding a new and better way of doing things; or by altering themselves or their surroundings, giving detailed notes on the effects of the changes.
