Fortitude ••••

When staked through the heart, the vampire loses one point of strength per round instead of being immediately paralyzed. Only once the vampire's strength drops to zero are they paralyzed as normal.

  • Cost: 1 Rouse Check
  • Dice Pool: {{{dicepool}}}
  • System: When staked through the heart, the vampire may make a rouse check to resist paralyses. The vampire nonetheless loses one point of strength per round. If the stake is removed, the vampire's strength instantly returns to normal. If the vampire has not managed to remove the stake before reaching 0 strength, they are paralyzed as per normal rules.

Some SI have taken to using stakes lined with several large metal barbs or hooks after witnessing this power in action.

To remove a stake requires a strength roll, with the number of successes needed dependent on how deep the stake is embedded. Two successes if the stake is barely piercing the heart, four successes if the stake is completely through the heart, six successes needed if the stake has completely impaled the body and is sticking out the back. Barbs or hooks on the stake add three to the needed successes, and on a bestial failure the vampire rips his own heart out with the stake, resulting in final death.

  • Duration: Until the stake is removed, or the vampire's strength drops to zero, whichever comes first.
