When trying to use them, such devices will simply not function correctly or accomplish the task you wish of them unless you succeed on a Technology against a Difficulty equal to 2 + Bane Severity. A failure on this roll when trying to use a device never has a directly beneficial outcome, and will not simply break or explode, but will simply not do what you want it to do.
