Oblivion Ceremony •••••

  • Prerequisite: As this is intended more as a plot device than as a player option, it has no power prerequisite.

The Giovanni have always relied on their Family above all else—mortals and ghouls as well as Kindred. But mortals are irritatingly fragile, and have a tendency to die at inopportune moments, depriving the Family of valuable assets. This obscure ceremony was created to overcome that limitation, granting a deceased relative the Embrace so that they can continue to serve.

  • Cost: A cleaned and embalmed cadaver, vitae from the intended Sire, blood from a mortal relative of the target (or vitae from their domitor, for a ghoul), an important possession of the target, iron nails, inks containing metallic lead and silver.
  • Dice Pool: The necromancer hammers iron nails into the cadaver’s eyes, tongue, wrists, ankles, and sternum, then paints lines from each point to the possession, creating metaphorical “puppet strings” for the soul to take hold of. At the climax of the ritual, they mix their own blood with the other sources and pour it into the corpse’s mouth, drawing a soul back from the depths of the Underworld.
  • System: This ceremony takes two hours to perform, and the difficulty of the roll is four, plus one for each full night the target has been dead, minus one for each dot of Blood Potency the Sire has. If the ceremony succeeds, the target rises as a new Kindred of their Sire’s clan; if vitae from multiple necromantic bloodlines was involved, the childe is a “pure Hecata” with no bloodline flaw.

This ceremony can be attempted only once on any given cadaver.

  • Duration: Special: A modified version of this ceremony can be performed on an already-existing vampire. This version requires blood from at least three different necromantic bloodlines, and strips away the target’s bloodline bane, replacing it with the Reborn flaw.
