You have a passing knowledge of five languages for every level purchased, sufficient to carry on a simple conversation with a thick accent. You can translate written material no more complicated than an advertising circular or popular magazine. You might also be able to follow the basic plot of a literary work, but deep analysis is impossible.
The ST may call for a roll with more complex content using your rating in this merit as a skill. With a similar roll, you might be able to figure out a few words or phrases in a language related to one you know, such as a German speaker struggling through Dutch.
