Protean ••

  • Amalgam: Dominate 2

This is the signature power of the Tzimisce: the ability to reshape their flesh and bones at will for aesthetic and practical purposes.

  • Cost: 1 Rouse Check
  • Dice Pool: Stamina+Protean
  • System: by using a full turn to shift the body's bones and tissue around, the user makes themselves more adept at anything they set their mind to.

Roll Stamina+Protean, for every success achieved on the roll you may trade 1 dot of a physical ability to gain any of the following benefits:

  • add one dot to an ability
  • add +2 dots to the looks merit
  • add +2 dots to a skill
  • grow the equivalent of a +1 light weapon used with the Melee skill. This light melee weapon counts as a weapon for all intents and purposes except that the weapon can't be disarmed but is lost on gaining a Crippling Injury.
  • grow the equivalent of armour at rating 2

These benefits may not be stacked on the same ability, skill, merit or armour, these benefits can't surpass the limit of 5 for a given trait's rating. On a critical success the user gets to activate one of the benefits for free. If the user has the power Feral Weapons, they may apply their Feral Weapons instead of the weapon described above. The use of the power ends at the end of the scene, a user may end the use of this power sooner spending a turn on reversing the changes. They lose the benefits and restore any traded dots of physical attributes.

Masquerade Threat: some are instant breaches (ex. weapons), others may be more subtle (ex. looks merit)

  • Duration: Scene

Why does Vicissitude need fixing? Vicissitude as written in de Companion feels clunky, trying to be a lot but just shy of the mark every time. This version separates the flescrafting Tzimisce do on others from their own fluid forms. Vicissitude represents the Tzimisce bending their own forms to their will.
