Thin-Blood Alchemy ••

This power allows the alchemist to mix their vitae with that of another Kindred to make it no longer cause a blood bond, or to do the same to their blood if they have Catenating Blood. This still allows for ghouls and new Kindred to be created, but just prevents the bond itself.

  • Cost: One Rouse Check, with additional One Rouse Check’s worth of blood required to be mixed in with another Kindred’s vitae, if desired
  • Dice Pool: Intelligence + Alchemy vs Target Kindred’s Blood Potency + number of hours removed from the body
  • System: Ingredients: The alchemist’s blood, human blood devoid of Resonance, pure ethanol and stomach bile.

System: The alchemist manipulates their own vitae such that it no longer has the power to blood bind (if it did already due to Catenating Blood).

If wishing to prevent another Kindred’s vitae from creating blood bonds, the alchemist mixes a Rouse Check’s worth of their vitae with up to 1 Hunger’s worth of vitae of another Kindred and then rolls Intelligence + Alchemy versus a difficulty of the other Kindred’s Blood Potency + the number of hours it has spent outside of the Kindred's body (rounding to the nearest hour).

If successful, the property is passed on to the other Kindred’s vitae. In the mixture, the alchemist’s own vitae becomes essentially inert, being able to be consumed by another Kindred as if it were normal blood, but not sating hunger, creating blood bonds or having any other supernatural/vampiric effects. This mixed blood can be used to create/maintain ghouls or embrace childer as normal, based on the Kindred whose vitae which was mixed, but will not create, maintain or reinforce a blood bond in the process.

Attempting to create trammeled vitae when the Kindred’s vitae to be mixed is under the effect of a sharing power such as Draught of Eleganceor Khemia Aima is possible, but increases the difficulty by 4. If the alchemist attempts to trammel their own vitae when under such an effect, or activates a power such as Draught of Elegance whilst already trammeled, they can attempt to make/keep their vitae trammeled and gain the benefit of the other power as normal at a Stamina + Alchemy roll of a difficulty equal to the power’s level (e.g. 4 for Khemia Aima and typically 5 for draught powers copied from other Disciplines).

If any mixture is not successful, the alchemist’s blood still becomes inert, but does not change the properties of the other Kindred’s vitae - which also means it may remain useless for many purposes of e.g. Embracing.

Successfully creating a mixture of ‘safe’ vitae in this way is immediately apparent, with an obvious change to the colour, sheen, viscosity, smell or other property of the vitae mix, dependent on each alchemist’s unique process. Unsuccessful mixtures do not have any obviously visible effect.

  • Duration: One hour for the Alchemist's own vitae. Another Kindred's vitae mixed in this way must still be stored properly as normal to continue having any effect after being removed from the Cainite’s body for a long period of time; this power changes nothing about its longevity or other aspects aside from the blood bond. If a Kindred wishes to embrace using mixed blood, it must typically done within an hour of being mixed.
